FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OBTAINING A DUPLICATE CERTIFICATES OR EXTRACTS

 

Any duplicate or certificate can be obtained if the registration of the civil status entry was made no earlier than 1950. If in the period 1940-1950, then it is necessary to clarify whether it is possible to obtain a duplicate. If before 1940, an archival certificate needs to be obtained.

 

Birth certificate or extract.

 
  1. 1. If you were born in the USSR on the territory of modern Ukraine, we will obtain a document. If in the USSR, but this is the territory of another state, then a duplicate must be obtained in this state; it is impossible to obtain such a document in Ukraine.
  2. If a certificate of a minor child is required, a duplicate is obtained using the documents of one of the parents
  3. If you need a birth certificate of one of the parents, but the person has already died, a birth extract will be obtained
  4. If you plan to apply for citizenship of another country, where the “nationality” column of one or both parents must be indicated, then you need to obtain a Birth Extract. Nationality will not be indicated on the new sample certificates.
 

Marriage certificate or extract.

 
  1. If the marriage is valid, a duplicate marriage certificate is issued. If the marriage was dissolved by a court decision or at the civil registry office, you will obtain an Extract of premarital surname.
  2. If the marriage was dissolved due to the death of one of the spouses, either a duplicate or a marriage extract can be obtained.
  3. If you need to confirm a change of surname when registering a marriage, but it has already been dissolved and the marriage certificate was taken away during the divorce, you need to obtain a marriage extract, which will indicate the change of surname.
 

Death certificate or extract.

 
  1. Only the closest relative has the right to obtain it. Children, parents or wife or husband.
  2. If the marriage was dissolved before the death of one of the spouses, the previous wife or husband does not have the right to obtain a death certificate or extract.
  3. If the marriage was valid at the moment of death of one of the spouses, the previous wife or husband has the right to obtain a death certificate or extract.
 

Divorce certificate or extract.

 
  1. Only the person in this marriage has the right to obtain it.
  2. If the marriage was dissolved by a court, it is impossible to obtain a divorce certificate. You should contact the court that carried out dissolution of the marriage.
